In today's world, any form of sexual contact can risk contracting a sexually transmitted disease. Although there are several sexually transmitted diseases, this paper will discuss gonorrhea since it is the most common and easy disease to infect. Gonorrhea is one of the sexually transmitted diseases caused by Neisseria gonorrhea in both males and females (Haese, 2021). It often affects the rectum, urethra, or throat, while in most females, it infects the cervix. Also, for the infected mother, their newborn babies can be affected during birth if extra care is not observed, which affects the baby's eyes. The pathophysiology happens when Neisseria gonorrhea, gram-negative intracellular diplococcus, an oxidase-positive bacterium that utilizes maltose, glucose, or lactose infecting mucus-secreting epithelial cells in any human gender. The bacterium expresses many virulence factors to help itself survive and replicate while remaining undiscoverable by the immune cells and attacking slowly in the body they have infected.
