The case where a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) performs the duty of a licensed practical nurse (LVN) is not unheard of. As a registered nurse, it is important to understand these concerns and carry out measures that would ensure that each nurse stayed in their line of focus.
In this particular case, the first thing that I would do to the LVN is to raise the issue with them in a friendly manner. Raising the issue in a friendly manner would make the LVN to feel respected and this would be helpful in the discussion. While LVN’s can carry out medical assessments as happened in the case under review, they are only allowed to do that under the supervision of a registered nurse and this would be an important issue to discuss with the LVN (Hill, 2012).
