Introduction
The healthcare system in the U.S. has been one of the hottest potatoes when it comes to governance and the policies formulated in that direction. It continues to be quite a pertinent issue, given that it is something that affects virtually every citizen. The bone of contention has always been insurance and pharmaceutical companies' stranglehold on the sector. This has been to the extent that it is no longer focused on patient care. Instead, more of it is to do with profit-making. However, there have been great improvements to streamline the healthcare system over the past several years. There have been reforms that have tried to move the focus from profits to the patient through the realization that nurses are important players in the sector.
Present Law in Healthcare
There have been various adjustments over the recent past. However, the most significant one was the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (H.R. 728). This Act gives nurses and the nursing field a new lease of life by providing funds for nurse education and even increasing the nurse quota. It provides for the loans taken by nurses during scholarships to be repaid, offers advance grants to nursing education, and provides financial facilities for the development of the nursing faculties. It also provides funds for the expansion and diversification of the nursing sector (H.R 728, n.d). This is a welcome thing in the industry, given that quite a lot has gone wrong in the healthcare industry due to an acute shortage of nurses. By training the nurses and allocating more slots for them in the industry, the Act ensures an endless conveyor belt producing qualified nurses into the sector. This, in turn, means that the quality of healthcare will also go up.
The impact of quality measures and pay for performance on patient outcomes and nurses
Pay for performance programs are simply aimed at streamlining and improving healthcare quality by targeting the healthcare givers with incentives. These incentives also go as far as the healthcare facilities. Pay for performance is a motivator for every stakeholder in the healthcare industry to give their best in service in return for extra perks. There is a marked improvement in inpatient care due to the program, especially in disadvantaged areas. For instance, interventions in pediatrics have been made quite efficient due to the program (Catalyst, 2018). The only undoing of the program is that there is no clear understanding of good services between patient behavior and illness recovery. It is, however, a step in the right direction when it comes to nurse motivation and better patient outcomes.
Emergent Professional and Management Nursing Leadership Roles In Response to Emerging Trends
* Care coordinator role
The care coordinator is a professional who helps in the management of a patient. Care has shifted from acute settings to outpatient settings and population management as the healthcare system undergoes many transformations (Mosher, 2019). Within an acute facility, care coordinators were in charge of a certain group of patients. They usually monitor every progress of a patient and talk to them and offer th...
