The Code of Ethics for addiction professions outlines two principles for protecting the counselor. One of those principles is a responsibility, which guides the clinician to practice objectivity, integrity, and standards (Berton, 2014). The other principle is competence and follows the same pattern of developing a practice founded on professionalism and continuous learning. I plan to ensure that I am ethically responsible by providing care to my patients without bias and with neutrality (Gamble & Saad, 2021). I will endeavor to remain emotionally uninvolved in my client's progress to avoid impeding my duties as an addiction professional with any personal feelings. I also plan on exercising moral accountability and responsibility for my judgments and actions by acting in ways that are consistent with the standards of my profession.
