Research Methodology -Telehealth

The transition from a consumer of research to a producer of research includes becoming an expert in the design and methodology required for the research task in addition to becoming an expert in the content of the research. Since not every nuance of every research design and method can be addressed in the limited space of a doctoral program, doctoral learners must take the responsibility to become fully immersed in the research design and methodology that is best suited to address the research questions of the dissertation. In this assignment, you will make a step toward both becoming an expert in the research methodology of your dissertation and to creating a first draft of the methodology section of your prospectus. Note that a passing score on this assignment does not indicate an approved research design or methodology. You will work with your dissertation chair and methodologist to further refine and focus the design and methodology once you enter the dissertation phase of the program.

The exponential advancement in technology has facilitated its application in almost every other industry including the healthcare sector. Telehealth is among the healthcare technologies with their implementation, an overall improvement in the healthcare sector has been realized. The aspects of access, cost-effectiveness, quality, and equity have guaranteed that millions of people benefit from this development, and more so, those from developing countries. For instance, in rural Mongolia, out of a reported 598 cases of neonatal pathology, gynecological pathology, and obstetrical, only 36 of them were referred to Ulaanbaatar for further treatment (World Health Organization, 2010). This process was critical to the residents in saving then astronomical charges such as travel fees that would have otherwise become a major problem for them. In essence, this sample study highlights that quantitative research methodology is central to comprehending the contribution of telehealth, which qualitative means may avoid because of their theoretical inclinations.
Critical Attributes of the Quantitative Methodology
Quantitative research gains significant applause for its ability to extrapolate the cause and effect relationship that exists between variables under study. In this case, one variable is the independent variable while the other is the dependent one. Further, the studies at a particular point in time as is the case with cross-sectional surveys or over an extended period, which happens in longitudinal studies (Rindfleisch, Malter, Ganesan & Moorman, 2008). Either way, one can gain an insight into the relationship that exists between variables.
This research approach gains much attraction from many because of its much emphasis on figures and numbers when a researcher is collecting data. This assertion implies that the application of statistical data as a tool results in much-saved time and resources. Statistical data is fundamental in deducting descriptions and analysis meaning that the researcher will less effort as well as time than they would in describing the result (Eyisi, 2016). Thereby, it is even possible to state the possible results of greater population size from a relatively small sample. Consequently, wider society conclusions can be derived quickly.

These two factors addressed form the two variables whereby researchers will seek to establish a relationship between them. Consequently, investigators will conduct their studies to ascertain the contribution of telehealth to the quality of healthcare patients receive. Broderick and Lindeman (2013) consolidate data gathered from three early telehealth adopters. These firms include Centura Health at Home, Partners HealthCar...
