Similar to other forms of technology, the rise of Artificial Intelligence has been recorded at an unprecedented scale for the past decades. Its technologies and applications have encompassed almost every field from finance, healthcare, and even agriculture. While there is still a long way to go before humans can developed a fully integrated, safe, and self-sufficient system it is clear that the advances in this technology is progressing at a rapid rate. In line with the developments in the AI technology, this article would discuss the current technologies and applications of AI in different fields of the world. The discussion would also contain a summary about the current state of technology and the future developments that are already in the pipeline. All in all, the author believes that by understanding the technology’s current applications and anticipated demands, it would be easier to appreciate the indispensable importance of AIs to human lives.
Current State and Anticipated Demands
In a 2013 study conducted by Adobe, the company reported that jobs that require the help of AIs has increased by 450% CITATION Ute18 \l 1033 (Utermohlen, 2018). Although a majority of these jobs are in the industrial sector, AIs have already been integrated in almost every industry including finance, healthcare, education, and agriculture. In another study conducted by the IDC, they estimated that expenditures for the technology could even be expected to increase by $97.9 billion by the end of 2023 CITATION IDC19 \l 1033 (IDC.Com, 2019).
In a more specific light, it could be seen that AIs application varies tremendously, which is the reason why different technologies also vary in their scale. For example, AIs these days have been integrated with smaller devices such as phones, watches, and televisions. In these devices, the AI’s functions are still limited to preprogrammed algorithms that is usually aimed to create a ‘richer experience’ for the user. In contrast to this, AIs used for large industries have a much more complicated functions.
Banking and Finance
For example, Banking and Finance industries these days use AI to determine pertinent information about a client’s personality by synthesizing his credit history, social media information, and personal information, among others. By collecting these data and synthesizing the information based on a preprogrammed algorithm, the bank can easily determine whether the client is eligible for a loan as well as determine the amount and interests applicable to him CITATION Mar193 \l 1033 (Martin, 2019).
Healthcare
Another field that heavily benefits from the use of AIs is the field of Healthcare. Contrary to the notion that the functionality of AIs is less needed due to the indispensability of human nature, AIs’ function in this field is complementary to healthcare providers.
