Quality Improvement Initiative at Dharma Health Centre
Introduction
The healthcare system consists of many stakeholders. It is the organization of resources, institutions, and people in the process of delivering healthcare services to the target groups (Jonas, Goldsteen, & Goldsteen, 2007). Among all the stakeholders in a healthcare setting, the patient is the most important personality. This is because a patient brings together healthcare providers for a common cause and that is to give healthcare service. Any patient seeking medical assistance from a healthcare centre always looks forward for the best service. One expects that he/ she shall be attended to, by the most qualified medical personnel, in the best environment, and offered the best medical products. Reforms in healthcare provision mechanisms have been taking place in the last ten years, countrywide. In this, Dharma Health Centre has not been left behind in service improvement. This is why the institution is offering some of the best healthcare services in the country. However, patients never get enough. Therefore, there is the need for a comprehensive quality improvement initiative that needs advancement to ensure the best quality of patient care (Jonas, Goldsteen, & Goldsteen, 2007).
Purpose of the Program
The present state of affairs, at Dharma Health Centre, is not worse off. In the last five years, the hospital has been undertaking a number of projects many of which have been developmental programs. The hospital has mainly concentrated on long-term projects that have included construction of a modern laboratory, construction of additional wards, and the purchase of emergency vehicles. So far, these projects have seen improved services especially in the laboratories. However, in the last three years, there has not been an initiative touching on individual patients in this hospital. Some areas of particular concern to patients' care have been deteriorating with time. This is the major reason for the proposition of the quality improvement initiative. As noticed, the Dharma Health Centre is listed as one of the most equipped hospitals, in the country. This is mainly in terms of hospital staffing. The hospital has not received any additional staff in the last two years. In this way, there are no new ideas on the way of doing things in this hospital. Therefore, this project aims at sensitization of all the hospital's department on the latest trends in the health care system. This entails training the hospital staff on crucial technological advancement in the market and on service delivery procedures. It also proposes the change of some existing service delivery systems in the hospital (Ogrinc, Headrick, & Joint Commission Resources, Inc., 2008).
