Quality improvement and safety
Nurses are the cornerstone of promoting patient safety and quality improvement in the healthcare system. According to MSN, nurses play crucial roles alongside different health workers such as pharmacists, physicians, psychologists, dieticians, and therapists. Nurses enhance surveillance and coordination in health centers to reduce adverse outcomes. Healthcare centers have several reasons to associate nurses with improved quality in the hospitals as well as ensuring patients` safety. Nurses spend the most time with the patients, which enables them to understand the behavioral patterns of their patients (Cherry & Jacob, 2016). For instance, they spend eight to twelve hours per shift with the patients. Therefore, they help the patients in making decisions on the services they want from the healthcare systems. The sole aim of the nurses is to ensure patient satisfaction in the Medicare unit.
Hospital management must empower nurses and include them in safety efforts (Phillips, Stalter, Dolansky & Lopez, 2016). Nurses are the constant personnel with patient experience in healthcare facilities. Therefore, they should know how to enact effective decisions when their leaders empower them to do so on behalf of the healthcare organization. The organization has to restructure its hierarchical leadership system to enable a collaborative process in making decisions. Nurses will advocate for patients' safety in decision-making means. Besides, nurses have a devotion to promoting quality improvement in healthcare facilities. They commit themselves to excellence, as they take part in the making decisions of healthcare organizations. Nurses are necessary to invent the latest technology development in the accountability of their work. Nurses have well developed interpersonal, conflict management skills, and critical thinking to act as patients` advocates. They stand in between the patients and other healthcare workers.
