Academic publishing highly depends on trust. The author, the peer reviewer, and the publisher trust in each other to produce a well-written, reviewed, and published work. Readers, on the other hand, trust the preview and publishing processes (APA, 2010). Accordingly, the publications processes are guided by various ethical guidelines to ensure the issue of trust prevails throughout the process. Some of the major ethical considerations pertain to plagiarism, authorship, and copyright.
Plagiarism whether one has recycled material or self-plagiarized is greatly forbidden. An author should never submit a plagiarized manuscript for reviewing. Plagiarism entails re-using ideas of previous work without fully giving credit to the author of such works (APA, 2010). This could be a major legal issue as it is considered a form of breach of copyright of the original work. Plagiarism should be checked during the writing stage and after reviewing to verify it there is any potential plagiarism (Creswell, 2014). This can be done using suitable software that is available online.
