The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced-practice registered nurses’ who work with patients suffering from behavioral problems and mental health disorders to provide mental health care. PMHNPs provide medicinal and therapeutic interventions to improve mental health care, treatment and wellness. Working together with the psychiatric mental health stakeholders to support policy changes and being actively involved in patient advocacy will be crucial to support relevant changes in mental health.
The PMHNPs can become patient advocates and provide service delivery to improve the wellbeing of the patients with psychiatric mental health disorders and the community. One way to achieve this is through participating in community assessments to influence public health policies.
