Hi everyone. Also wanted to share some APA tips as you write your week 5 assignment.
Tip #1 - Remember, when you are referring to the number of years you have been working, use numerals to express numbers regardless of whether or not they are below 10 or above 10. For example, "I have been a nurse for over 8 years."
Tip #2 - Remember, to identify all abbreviations first time in paper and subsequent notations, use that abbreviation. For example, "I am currently employed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Saint Mary's Medical Center. In the ICU, my role as a nurse includes orienting new nurses, overseeing quality control, and acting as team leader."
Tip #3 - Remember, all pages need to include a page number. NOTE: Walden does not require headers on the top left of pages. All that is needed is the page number in top right corner.
Tip #4 - Remember that each area you are presenting (as shown on the assignment rubric) needs to contain a heading. This heading is formatted as a level 1 heading which is bolded and centered. Do not forget capitalization. The exception to this rule is the first title on page two which “matches” the title on your title page. Center this heading but do NOT bold.
Tip #5 - Spell out all contractions throughout your paper. For example, "It is my goal to become a master's prepared nurse." NOT - "It's my goal to become a master's prepared nurse."
Tip #6 – Title Page – Be sure to format title page as shown in the example assignment and course video. List title of paper, your name, Walden University, Course Number, Course Section, Course Name, and then, date.

Professional Development Plan Guidance
Professional Development Plan
Purpose of the Professional Development Plan
Students conceptualize a personalized blueprint for approaching their Walden
studies and present it in a written Professional Development Plan (PDP). Writing
the essay allows students the opportunity to
• reflect on their personal history, professional accomplishments, and future
aspirations;
• initiate a discussion with instructor about graduate study in general and the
Walden program in particular; and
• articulate academic interests and set goals for their Walden educational
experience.
Content and Structure of the Professional Development Plan
Although a general outline is provided for the content and structure of the PDP
(see Week 1 Application Rubric), students are encouraged to write an essay that
reflects their individual experience, achievements, and goals. Students write the
essay in the first person and include their thoughts on how the plan relates to
their chosen field of study.
Personal and Professional Goals
In this section, students write a brief personal introduction, state their personal
and professional goals, and articulate how these goals intersect with their
academic interests and selected field of study. Students reflect upon the mission
and vision of the university. Students discuss how specialized learning and the
attainment of a graduate degree will help them meet career and personal life
goals.
Educational Background and Research Proficiency
When developing this section, students reflect on the formal and informal
learning experiences that compose their educational background and discuss
how these experiences support the direction of study established in Part I.
Walden encourages students to include individual knowledge, skills, and
accomplishments. Students explain the academic and research proficiencies
they bring to the program and identify areas to improve while a Walden
student. Students are expected to evaluate honestly their readiness to pursue
graduate education.
Categories for students to consider when writing this section include the
following (note that not everyone will have all of these experiences, and that is
okay; the purpose of this exercise is to focus your reflection on what
experiences you do bring to your graduate education and how your education
will facilitate your development as a nursing professional):
• Academic coursework in nursing and related sciences.
• Academic coursework in other fields.
• Professional presentations, seminars, and workshops.
• Volunteer activities.
• Prior experience designing and executing research (if any).
• Publications and other writing experiences.
• Teaching assignments.
• Professional training.
• Academic strengths and weaknesses.
• Research strengths and weaknesses.
• Availability of library, reference, and information technology resources.
Professional Goals, Learning Goals, Practicum
In these three sections relate your professional and educational background to
your future goals as you complete your graduate deg

Personal and Professional Goals
My decision to enroll in the undergraduate nursing degree is to attain the appropriate skills and knowledge that will be the basis for furthering my education and working as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). Walden University (2016) seeks to produce innovative leaders adept at engaging in creative thinking to improve healthcare delivery and address the health needs of local communities. I appreciate the need for continuous training, and having already been working as a registered nurse (RN) in different capacities, I will be more confident using evidence-based guidelines when making decisions. It has not been easy going back to school, and juggling work with education, but to improve the quality of patient care, nurses need to be competent having the requisite clinical experience and education.
I seek to complete my Master’s degree in the next three years and be certified to work as a FNP after enrolling in the Doctorate program. I am currently working as a clinical Coordinator in Dekalb Medical, GA where I supervise Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologist, Unit Secretary, and Patient Care Techs. I believe that I am well prepared to work as an FNP in future having interacted with health practitioners in my working experience. Health care providers should seek education opportunities to be better prepared to improve health outcomes and work in diverse clinical settings (Kunic & Jackson, 2013).
Educational Background and Research Proficiency
I first graduated with an Associate of Science Nursing from Bunker Hill College in 1996 and completed the BSN Nursing at Walden University. The Associates degree program addressed nursing theories and clinical practice, and this is the basis for meeting clinical objectives, skills and knowledge. The BSN Nursing degree has been valuable as the program has emphasized the use of evidence from humanities, research and science to improve nursing practice and health promotion. Since 1997 to date, I have worked in different capacities having acquired licenses in Basic Life Support, Advan...
