Health encompasses various aspects of a person’s welfare. It encourages to incorporate a person’s physical, mental, and social status and it also involves the basic rights of a person without discrimination on race, religion, political belief, and economic or social viewpoints. It is not just simply the lack of disease or infirmity (World Health Organization, n.d.).
To attain this, a wide range of considerations are at hands such as new practice approaches in health and the role of technology in improving health outcomes, intraprofessional collaboration, health care delivery, policies, disparities, and ethical considerations, population health concerns, and leadership and economic models.
The latest approaches to health take advantage of the use of technology. Its main purpose is to improve health outcomes and to reduce mortality and morbidity rate. Typically, evidence-based practice (EBP) is exercised to ensure high-quality care. These incorporate EBP training, online education intervention, hands-on techniques, return demonstrations, and research outcomes (Patelarou et al, 2017).
Practically, the institutions required healthcare professionals to attend seminars at least once every two months to remain updated and to read the latest academic and peer-reviewed journals to confirm the effectivity of the techniques learned in seminars. I was able to attend some of the seminars and I applied the techniques that I learned from the facilitators.
Intraprofessional collaboration occurs when two or more different specialties work together, resulting in a cooperative environment (Meijer, de Groot, Blaauw-Westerlaken, & Damoiseaux, 2016). In the healthcare setting where there is a considerable number of patients, cooperation and communication are of great importance because confusion may hinder the smooth execution of treatments. This may also cause disorder in patient monitoring and follow-up which may result in pandemonium in the clinics (Janssen, Sagasser, Laro, de Graaf, & Scherpbier-de Haan, 2017).
Based on my experience, most of the administrations where I worked in ensures excellent communication between health care and non-health care professionals, as well as among health care professionals, by conducting a meeting, usually done at the end of the week, to give insights on the problems within the system and to be able to provide solutions without delay. These administrations believe that excellent communication is the key to a collaborative environment. Furthermore, most of the challenges arise in the communication between the administration and the health care teams, resulting in faulty decisions. Because of this, seminars are provided regarding the different health care laws in the state and nationally. These enhance awareness among different disciplines. Conferences and parties are also held to tighten the bond among the different professions.
Mostly, patients yearn for quality care from professionals equipped with excellent knowledge in the field of medicine. These are the essential components for superb health care delivery. And to create this, it is imperative to take health policies, disparities, and ethics as significant factors (Cockerham, 2017). According to the World Health Organization (n.d.), health policy represents the decisions, strategies, and activities that are organized to succeed in achieving health care goals within the community.
To do this, most of the healthcare institutions provide training and seminars. The training that I have received consist of real-life situations such as what to do in emergencies like earthquakes, tsunamis, fire, unexpected flash floods and other calamities, shootings, and others. They also provide seminars on how to deal with difficult patients and patient’s families and how to inform them with rapport and empathy that the patient’s safety and comfort are the providers’ top priority. The topics in the seminars are free and these focus on patient safety, comfort, and the health care provider’s protection.
I was able to attend some of the seminars. I was also able to read the journals and the clinical trials done in hospitals in their online libraries and applied what I have learned in practice.
Health disparities refer to the avoidable dissimilarities in the burden of disease, harm, violence, or opportunities to attain optimal health which makes the underprivileged suffer (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.).
To address this, health institutions where I worked provided medical missions once a month or once every two months, depending on the institution’s administration and community lectures regarding first-aid, epidemic diseases, and the importance of vaccination from infancy to adulthood. The medical missions usually include free consultation in internal medicine, rehabilitation medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, conducting basic surgeries, distribution of maintenance medications, and dental check-ups for the marginalized people. These are organized with the help of several health care providers such as doc...
