Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure or HBP, is a widely misinterpreted medical condition. There is a common perception that patients with hypertension are nervous, tense or hyperactive. However, hypertension has no connection with personality traits. The truth is that hypertension can affect anyone including the calm and relaxed people. The current statistics have revealed that hypertension causes approximately 7.5 million deaths annually, which is 12.8% of the total of all deaths that occur worldwide. Considering a region like America, statistics have shown that 31% of American adults have high blood pressure. That is one adult in every three American adults (CDC - High Blood Pressure Facts - DHDSP, n.d.). These facts clearly points out how it is important for health care professionals to ensure that their patients receive verifiably effective treatments. In that regard, I pose the following PICOT Question:
In adult people with hypertension, how effective is doing exercise compared to medications in reducing high blood pressure in the first two months after diagnosis?
