Abstract
The article looks closely at the personal philosophy of nursing and the significance of professionalism in nursing. In the first section, there is an analysis of the personal philosophy as it relates to nursing, the basic meaning of the components such as beliefs, values and the definite environment acceptable. Then there is a discussion on the articulation of the various changes in personal philosophy over time that relates to the increasing demand for nurses to combine duties and the dynamic and rapid changes in knowledge and practice including the specialty. The various changes are attributable to the growth of technology that has infiltrated most of the field of practice, thereby making nursing practice to basically depend on evidence-based practices for solutions.

Philosophy has many definitions associated with it but in the context of the nursing profession, it could refer to a set of ideas or beliefs that safeguards the field of nursing practice alongside the underlying theory. It also entails a system of values that directs the manner and standards by which an individual lives. One of the concepts of nursing entails the belief system, in this case, the belief is an indication of the various values that have a faith component. Then there is the value system that is considered as a crucial set of principles that provide meaning as well as direction towards social, professional and personal lives. The other concept in nursing involves the environment, which entails both the internal environment that points to within the person and the external environment pointing to outside the individual. This focuses on the importance of nurses to consider beyond the individual and also focus on the surroundings as well as the structures that intrinsically influence the quality of human health. Health, in this case, presents a dynamic and ever-evolving state of humans that is basically measured by relative terms. This means that in general terms no one can be identified as absolutely healthy or ill. Professional nursing could be considered to entail a full range of human experiences as well as responses towards individual health and illnesses devoid of any form of restriction or discrimination (McCutcheon & Stalter, 2017).

Nursing as a profession entails not only the knowledge on the anatomy of the patient but also detailed knowledge that helps in understanding the basic essence and substance that makes up the patient. This calls for the profession of nursing to be patient-centered with the nurse upholding the values that makes them understand the patient holistically. The aspect of understanding the patients from an altruistic perspective is mandatory, which guarantees the patients the autonomy of advocating for their rights during the process of care. Patients should be treated as individuals with varied beliefs as compared to other patients and therefore, need to respect their personal wishes and beliefs while also being enlightened concerning the outcome of their decisions (McCutcheon & Stalter, 2017).
Nursing practice demands that the practitioners uphold the values of human dignity, integrity as well as social values that safeguard the profession and process of care. The practice of such values eliminates the cases of stereotypes and biases replacing them with dignified support and respect that is warranted towards each patient. The nurses are expected to have the ability to believe, articulating as well as demonstrating the value of nursing in a candid manner.
