Diagnosis of the Disorder
Diagnosing a patient with a musculoskeletal disorder is dependent on the patient’s history and physical examination performed on the patient on the spot. Along with examining the two aspects of the diagnosis, monitoring is also done to keep an eye on the patient’s situation. The focus of the diagnosis is analyzing the symptoms and signs of both the joints of the patient and the extra-articular features. Joint examination of these bodily features look for certain signs that show the presence of a musculoskeletal disorder. Features on the patient’s body that symbolize the presence of the disorder include range of motion, inflammation on some body parts such as the feet, weakness, range of motion, deformity and stability. Evaluation and Assessment
To treat the disorder, the doctor needs to ask some questions to help in the assessment of the severity of the disorder. Some of the questions asked may include:
1 Do the symptoms suggest damage or swelling of the musculoskeletal structures?
2 Is the problem asymmetric, generalized, peripheral, symmetric or central?
3 Is there an underlying medical disorder which may cause the specific rheumatologic problem?
