I sometimes feel like I have less control over my decisions when I am around certain people, especially seniors. Social interactions are supposed to be meaningful and enjoyable experiences in individuals’ lives. Unfortunately, I experience less control over my decisions and actions, especially when interacting with older adults, leading to unpleasant social experiences. If I were accorded more decision-making authority or autonomy to influence the situations surrounding these social interactions, my hedonic drivers would typically push me to foster contexts that increase the frequency of positive social interactions while mitigating the potential for hostile social engagements. However, this has been hard to achieve. In other circumstances, I have also interacted with older adults that encouraged open and candid conversations as they seemed less insensitive to our age difference.
