Screening and Guidelines
The diagnosis for opioid misuse requires a comprehensive evaluation, including screening by psychologists or psychotherapists. The presence of substances can be done using blood tests, urine tests, and other lab tests in order to establish the levels of opioid usage in an individual. The Severity of Dependence Scale (SDS) is a questionnaire with 5-items that provides scores based on the severity of dependence on opioids. There is a four-point scale on the five items, and the total score is obtained by adding the individual rating on each item. The level of dependence is based on the score. It is easier, cheap, and can be used to make accurate predictions about opioids dependence on individuals (Lindley, Cox, & Cochran, 2019).
