The mid-20th century, for instance, accounts for some of the remarkable transitions in the nursing profession upon which forms the foundation for the present advances in the practice. Among the integral changes in nursing from the 1960s to the present includes the implementation of nursing education reforms and the incorporation of advanced technology in the delivery of nursing care to patients. Provided herein is an evaluation of the evolutionary changes in nursing through the lens of nursing education from the 1960s to the present time, highlighting the impact of the selected historical event on the profession and identifying three major advances witnessed within the stated time interval.
Nursing education predominantly took place within the healthcare facilities before the mid-20th century. Hospital-based training for nurses was characteristic of interruption to the learning programs owing to the bedside care demands from patients CITATION Whe21 \l 1033 (Whelan, 2021). The increasingly complex health care demands among patients in the mid-20th century necessitated enhancing the nursing education program. Proposed amendments to changing the nursing education program included shifting it from hospital-based training to higher learning institutions. Advocacy for the proposed changes led to the awarding of baccalaureate nursing programs by over 172 colleges in the United States by 1960 CITATION Whe21 \l 1033 (Whelan, 2021).
