Golay et al. (2020) argue that nurses hold significant roles in promoting the health information technology (HIT) system usability (Golay et al., 2020). That is why caregivers should not be left out in every phase of the system development life cycle (SDLC) of a new HIT system. I concur with my colleague that the failure to include nurses in the SDLC is the recipe for a disaster. Adverse consequences, including frustrations, waste of resources, and system inefficiencies are only a few issues that are likely to occur. Nurses foster the development and implementation of a user-centered design HIT system (Risling & Risling, 2020). If these crucial stakeholders are left out in the design phase, for example, the HIT system cannot be user-friendly, and it would not promote workflow efficiency. Besides, the HIT system is developed to promote the effectiveness of daily operations, and ignoring end-users means that essential aspects are unlikely to be prioritized.

My peer made it clear that the involvement of nurses in creating and implementing the Bar Code Medication Association (BCMA) was significant to the success of the system. When building or adapting a new HIT system in a healthcare facility, interoperability, and reliability of the system are determined by caregivers (Wang et al., 2019).
