Competency has a vital role in patient handling to ensure safety and high-quality care. Concerning this, nurses act as leaders in the management of data and information from its acquisition to its verification. Through the help of information systems, nurses are allowed to increase the efficiency of their work (Farokhzadian, Khajouei, Hasman, & Ahmadian, 2020).
Information systems provide easy access to important details regarding the patients and the organization in an institution. Doctors and nurses are the main bodies who utilize these systems. Thus, they are the ones who can provide for their assessment (Khajouei & Farahani, 2020).
Specifically, the roles of nurses are to evaluate the errors in the system, ease of use, satisfaction rates, and learnability. The errors in the systems can be assessed through trial-and-error, where the nurses can use the system to observe for its deficits and deficiencies. Learnability and the ease of use go hand-in-hand especially for the older nurses who are less comfortable in using advanced technology (Lunden, Teräs, Kvist, & Häggman‐Laitila, 2020). Thus, older nurses are excellent evaluators when it comes to these factors. Last, satisfaction rates involve the overall quality of the system which can be evaluated through the use of survey questionnaires and interviews of nurses across all ages (Lin, 2017).
Strategies Utilized in the Implementation of the Health Information System
To adapt from this technology, the hospital facility shall reorient the whole system of organization. The following are the strategies that can be used to implement a novel health information system: 1) Identify the main people who shall undergo training. This is the most crucial part of the strategy since digital training requires skills and digital competences.; 2) Providing an accessible system such as the creation of electronic health records. This shall be done to reduce the incidences in the incorrect patient profile. Thus, reducing the risk of patient mismanagement, malpractice, and negligence.
