Mammography is a medical process that has been utilized by many doctors and healthcare providers around the world to detect and identify symptoms of breast diseases. As a procedure, this includes the use of a continuous and low-dose bombardment of x-rays to a woman’s breast (National Cancer Institute, n.d.). However, despite its benefits as early detection and diagnosis, several studies have pointed out that the use of radiation could pose some risks to a woman’s health. Consequently, this is the reason why mammography should be restricted (or strictly regulated at the very least)
In a policy guideline released by the United States FDA, one of the guidelines for mammography screening is an individual’s age. On the one hand, it recommends women forty (40) to forty-nine (49) years old to undergo mammography every one to two years, and those fifty years old and above every one year (Aetna.com, 2018).
