LEVELS OF HEALTH PROMOTION
There are three levels of health promotion. These levels are primary, secondary, and tertiary health promotion. Categorizing them into these levels assists healthcare providers to focus their efforts on primary health issues across all the stages of diseases and wellness. Health promotion at primary prevention aims at maintaining and promoting health. This stage also comprises measures that prevent an individual from getting ill (Krau, 2011). Primary prevention is considered as active because a person is doing something that involves preventing the spread of the disease. For example, one can wear a helmet when riding a bicycle or brushing teeth to prevent diseases. Primary prevention occurs before the onset of an illness or an injury. It also involves preventive treatment like vaccination to prevent the contraction of a disease.
