Every plan should include learning styles that entail adopting learning approaches based on the learners' weaknesses, strengths, and preferences, which, in turn, invites desired educational outcomes. VARK (visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic) is a tool used to recognize the most relevant learning styles, preferences, and strategies, ultimately guaranteeing desirable outcomes in the education process (Mozaffari et al., 2020). Based on the VARK questionnaire outcome, it is evident that my preferred learning style includes a 6 on visual, 5 on aural, read/write at 4, and kinesthetic at 11. The results indicate that I prefer kinesthetic learning more than other learning styles, especially read/write. The fact that visual, aural, and kinesthetic have relatively higher score indicate that I prefer multimodal learning strategies. A kinesthetic preference justifies my reliance on applications over theories, the use of personal experiences, and demonstrations and applications of what is learned (VARK Learn Limited, 2023). It further entails the adoption of videos that exhibit real events, reliance on practical sessions, including laboratory sessions, and the use of samples, images, exhibits, and examples. The kinesthetic score indicates that I am likely to embrace examples, especially real-life situations, and find images and diagrams in a learning environment.
The VARK questionnaire reveals a relatively low score in the read/write column. In the nursing field, for example, the read/write option cannot guarantee success in the profession, which is characterized by the delivery of quality care and patient safety, among other factors. The read/write process would encourage memorization rather than obtaining knowledge by comprehending various aspects through diagrams, pictures, and exhibits and applying them in real-life situations. At the moment, I prefer videos that illustrate concepts and listening to explanations shared by the lecturer. This conforms to the expectations of a strong kinesthetic learning strategy, which includes reliance on tables, diagrams, and graphs, seeking expert opinions, and adopting examples that boost comprehension of what is taught. In this regard, Hernandez et al. (2020) reveal that kinesthetic learners exhibit better visuospatial understanding, especially when the learning process incorporates sketching, drawing, and clay modeling. Calif (2020) backs kinesthetic, arguing that apart from the multimodal approach, reliance on kinesthetic has a positive outcome in the classroom. This includes extending beyond listening to a lecture or watching a video to hold an interactive learning process, which includes moving around to places such as the laboratory, drawing graphs, and applying day-to-day situations to facilitate comprehension.
I have established that kinesthetic entails learning by doing. A multimodal approach will combine visual and aural aspects, which includes embracing interactive discussions and demonstrations, including videos and pictures.
