A walk through the Business section of any bookstore or a quick Internet search on the topic will reveal a seemingly endless supply of writings on leadership. Formal research literature is also teeming with volumes on the subject.



However, your own observation and experiences may suggest these theories are not always so easily found in practice. Not that the potential isn’t there; current evidence suggests that leadership factors such as emotional intelligence and transformational leadership behaviors, for example, can be highly effective for leading nurses and organizations.



Yet, how well are these theories put to practice? In this Discussion, you will examine formal leadership theories. You will compare these theories to behaviors you have observed firsthand and discuss their effectiveness in impacting your organization.

Review the Resources and examine the leadership theories and behaviors introduced.

Identify two to three scholarly resources, in addition to this Module’s readings, that evaluate the impact of leadership behaviors in creating healthy work environments.

Leadership theories guide organizations in implementing programs that will enhance leadership skills. This is important because, based on evidence, local health departments’ success depends on highly resilient leadership. In addition, it marks significant relationships with other organizations, such as universities and educational resources, which in turn, improves the accessibility from the connections, enhancing their knowledge and expertise (Duggan et al., 2015). Moreover, good leadership creates plausible relationships between the organization members, reducing the conflict and upholding commitment and responsibility. Therefore, leadership positively impacts the organization, which is achieved by improving a healthy work environment supported by the knowledge and expertise gained from the resources gathered from the connections.
Leadership necessitates communication, commitment, accountability, and ingenuity. In addition, it deals with constructing a strategy that allows the organization’s members to contribute to its success, making an extraordinary event happen (Marshall, 2011, p. 2). Several leadership theories in nursing exist to guide health providers in achieving their objectives while maintaining a healthy work environment. First, transformational leadership is the association between the leader and member where they encourage one another to achieve a higher level of functioning, leading to system congruence. Here, the leader must have a determined personality, vision, personal consideration, and intellectual stimulation (Xu, 2017). It also promotes optimism, flexibility, hope, contentment, and the employees’ ability, promoting a healthy environment (Marshall, 2011, p. 17). Brewer et al. (2016) demonstrated that it has a significant positive impact on the employees’ organizational commitment despite not increasing the drive to stay in the institution. Finally, the commitment is highly related to the leadership style’s effect that encourages mentor support and career-enhancement opportunities, heightening job satisfaction.
Second, servant leadership promotes a healthy work environment by inspiring the members. Some of the strategies include listening first before complaining, showing empathy, addressing the deeper problems, conceptualizing, persuading the members, and foreseeing the plausible outcomes...
