Infants and toddlers, for instance, are particularly vulnerable to accidents such as drowning, burns, and falls due to their limited mobility and lack of awareness of potential dangers. Therefore, it is crucial to tailor safety education to the child's specific age and developmental stage to ensure that it effectively prevents accidents and injuries.
Fire Safety Concerns
One safety concern that is particularly important to teach to the pediatric population is fire safety. Children under five are at higher risk of fire-related injuries and deaths due to their limited ability to evacuate a burning building or understand the danger of fire. Accordingly, the U.S. Fire Administration reported that "the relative risk of child ages 0 to 14 dying in a fire in 2020 was 0.3.
