For this assignment, you will identify an area of health care (i.e., long-term care, facility operations, finance, health care insurance, etc.) you find particularly interesting. Locate a health care leader (supervisor, manager, director, etc.) that is currently working in your selected area of health care. You are to conduct an interview with your chosen leader. Your interview can either be by phone or an in-person interview. You are to compose a list of 8-10 questions to ask the interviewee. Your questions should be directly related to this module’s readings and should not be closed-end questions (requiring more than a yes or no response). See example questions below:
What is your leadership style and how do you apply it in your everyday activities?
What are some leadership qualities that are needed in today’s health care environment?
How do you balance power and authority as a leader?
You are to complete a voice-recorded, narrated 12- to 15-slide PowerPoint (PPT) presentation covering the following:

Interview Questions
* You have been a leader since 1998. What is the one thing that you believe makes you different?
I believe the ability to adapt to the changing times and environments makes me different. Business environments change, and one has to adapt to the changes to remain relevant. I try my best to adapt, and thus remain relevant.
* While starting in your current position, what was your leadership style, and has it changed, or have you tweaked or added something to it?
Initially, I believe I put a lot of weight in the positions I held. This means that I wanted my position to dictate things. I wanted people to respond to my position. However, slowly, I have learned that to be a successful leader, I have to fight the temptation to have my pride and ego dictate the kind of person I am. I have, therefore, learned that respect is a key ingredient in leadership, and my approach to leadership changed ever since.
* What are some of the qualities of leadership you believe are key to any leader’s success in whichever sphere of life?
As already stated, respect is one quality one must have. One must respect everyone regardless of their position. Recognize people for being human first. The others are having a vision, integrity, and the willingness to learn and unlearn. These I believe are key to any leader’s success.
* As a leader in healthcare insurance, how have you been able to share your vision with your employees? What are some of the challenges you experienced as you tried to share your vision?
One way I shared my vision was making sure it was always visible. I communicated my ideas and made sure my employees knew sall about the direction I wanted the company to take. Also, had to try different ways to tie my vision to individual goals.
The challenges I encountered include resistance. The unwillingness of people to shift from an old system to a new system. Also, the lack of foresight was a problem since many people often think of the here and now.
* Change will always be met with resistance. Some people will fear for their jobs, others will fear new technology, and some will simply want to maintain the status quo. How have you been dealing with resistance in your many years of leadership? Did you always have it your way?
First of all, as a leader, there should never be something like having it your way. If a leader see is this way then they should not be a leader at all.
Second, to deal with resistance, one must first expect it. Any change attracts resistance. On my part, I did several things that eventualy led to the resistance being softened. I listened. I had meetings with employees and listened to their ideas and fears. The other key issue was communication. I had to communicate the vision and change ideas, and trust my employees. Also, change should be implemented in stages. This is another lesson that I had to learn the hard way.
* The healthcare environment is ever-changing. How have you been able to find ways to maintain organizational progress for more than 20 years?
This is simple: have a vision and be flexible. Every business environment demands a different approach.
* What are some of your most challenging leadership experiences in the volatile healthcare environment? Which leadership quality can you say helped you the most to maneuver through such experiences?
Policy changes are quite a problem for many leaders in the healthcare sector. However, as already explained earlier, a leader needs to be flexible. One has to be able to adapt to changes in the sector.
Another challenge would be the lack of upward communication or feedback. This can drive an organization down because it means there is a disconnect between the management and employees. A leadership quality that helps with this is understanding that management can fall short. Acknowledging that you do not know everything is crucial to forward mobility in an organization.
* What do you understand by ethics? How does ethical leadership impact outcomes in the healthcare environment or industry?
Ethics are simply the values that guide you in whatever you do. In the healthcare sector, ethical leadership is key. Healthcare holds the other aspects of the economy together. Without ethical leadership, there can never be a healthy workforce. Ethical leadership helps to ensure that vices such as corruption in a crucial sector like healthcare is non-existent. In a nutshell, ethical leadership ensure the safety of everyone by holding leaders accountable to their cause.
