Nature offers many examples of specialization and collaboration. Ant colonies and bee hives are but two examples of nature’s sophisticated organizations. Each thrives because their members specialize by tasks, divide labor, and collaborate to ensure food, safety, and general well-being of the colony or hive.
Of course, humans don’t fare too badly in this regard either. And healthcare is a great example. As specialists in the collection, access, and application of data, nurse informaticists collaborate with specialists on a regular basis to ensure that appropriate data is available to make decisions and take actions to ensure the general well-being of patients.
In this Discussion, you will reflect on your own observations of and/or experiences with informaticist collaboration. You will also propose strategies for how these collaborative experiences might be improved.

Nursing informatics is an evolved specialty where analytical science is combined with the nursing practice to improve the identification, definition, and communication of information. Nurse informaticists are health providers who transformed into technology innovators whose objectives are to corroborate businesses, construct technologies directed to improve the end-user clinicians and evaluate medical economics (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2021).
One of its significant roles lies with electronic health records, where nurse informaticists make data organized and readily available for more efficient treatment or transaction. Particularly, electronic documentation can help recognize the changes in the patient's status easily. Therefore, prompt care will be given in a short period. This immediate plan of action ensues with the help of a systematized interpreted system and a uniform way of documentation (Lee, 2014). Additionally, nursing informatics has a vital role in promoting patient-centered care by making data readily available to the clinicians to promptly integrate this information into their medical understanding and practice experiences (Snyder et al., 2011).
As a health provider, it is crucial to understand this specialty's roles and know when to ask for assistance. During my practice, the help of nurse informaticists was significant in providing palliative care. Previous records of patients who suffered from cancer and opted for palliative care are handwritten in our facility, and some are illegible. According to the old staff, this resulted in many medical errors, particularly in prescription and dosage computation. Moreover, the staff reported that it also led to drug administration errors and task delegation, and patient endorsement issues. The facility already uses electronic records during my time, but the previous records have not yet been all translated electronically. Therefore, it is essential to communicate with the nurse informaticist when dealing with palliative care patients.
