Nurses can be best termed as the first line of communication in any health facility. Therefore, they play an impeccable role in maintaining and providing good quality health care (Wakefield et al., 2021). Due to their important and unique role in people's lives, nurses require a good education, working environments, and sound mental and physical health. This paper mainly focuses on how the nursing profession has been influenced due to the work of the national academies of science, engineering, and medicine and the state-based action coalitions.
The national academies of sciences, engineering, and medicine collaborate to solve challenging problems and influence public policy decisions by providing analysis of the problem. The future of nursing 2020 – 2030 was a product of a request by the National Academy of Medicine through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which conducted a study that purposed to provide a way in which nurses can achieve their quality health mandate (Wakefield et al., 2021). The committee, therefore, worked to increase and strengthen the expertise capacity of nurses by forming a framework that identified the specific areas of challenge that needed strengthening. The report was based on an assessment of changes in the field of nursing.
From the nursing practice that was exercised in the past, where the sick were treated by female family members who had specialized in remedies, nursing practice and education have had tremendous changes (Online Nursing, 2020). The most striking trend is the profession's diversity in ethnicity and gender. In the past few years, with an increase in innovation, telemedicine has been on the rise allowing nurses to reach more patients despite logistic challenges (Online Nursing, 2020). The trajectory of nursing education has also changed from diplomas or hospital learning sets to degrees in universities which have upgraded to flexible online modules for nursing students. Nurses have also been at the forefront of leading change by having nursing organizations that ensure quality health care is achieved (Online Nursing, 2020). Nursing, one of the most important and trusted occupations, is inevitable to change as the years progress.
State-based action coalitions are the enforcements applied to ensure that the recommendations passed in the reports from various sectors are implemented. The coalitions are comprised of institutions and professionals from both local and state levels. They ensure that the best health practices and models that were insights in the National Academy of Sciences report are passed and followed in all health institutions of the country (Campaign for Action, 2022). The members of the said coalitions work to increase awareness and to come up with innovations that deal with challenges that may deter the achievement of goals in the report (Campaign for Action, 2022).
