The Cultural and Linguistic Competence Health Practitioner Assessment(CLCHPA) is designed to facilitate the delivery of high-quality services to patients. It is also used to promote culture as a vital approach to addressing health and healthcare disparities. It is used to assess the attitude, knowledge, and skills of health practitioners. Further, it is used to assess social inequities by inquiring about the awareness of practitioners on some factors such as income, neighborhood resources, and education (Yoder-Wise, 2019). CLCHPA is based on two assumptions. First, it assumes that cultural and linguistic competence are developmental processes at both the organizational and individual level. The second assumption is that with enough support, people can enhance their skills and knowledge over time. Lastly, online access to CLCHPA is only meant for self-assessment and educational activities.
The principles of cultural competence apply to the provision of nursing health promotion services in various ways. First, through these principles nurses are taught on how they are supposed to comfort those patients who have different beliefs (Yoost, & Crawford, 2015). Cultural competence allows nurses to provide care of the highest level to patients. Respecting the cultures of these patients is an important skill in nursing. Through these principles, health practitioners can understand their culture and conduct evaluations that are culturally sensitive.
Further, principles of cultural competence can assist health practitioners to meet, social, cultural, and linguistic needs of the clients. Respect is very important because patients will feel that their beliefs, cultures customs, traditions, and language are valued.
