Nursing practice has a range of roles and responsibilities but the crucial one is the quality healthcare provision. The practice is underpinned by personal and interprofessional values that guide the practices and how the nursing is provided. This paper is a reflection of such values that apply to personal nursing practice and their overall effect on the interprofessional teams' practice. Team functions need to be improved to foster a positive environment for healthcare provisions. Such team functions that the paper discusses include; compassion, resilience, advocacy, and evidence-based practice.
Compassion
Compassion is an essential part of nursing. Its demand is increasing due to the increasing public scrutiny and competition from healthcare providers to provide quality healthcare. Empathy is a nursing action that can contribute to a compassionate practice.CITATION Kar \l 1033 (Blomberg, Griffiths, Wengström, May, & Bridges, 2016) This trait is dependent on an individual therefore, a nurse needs to take care of your emotional needs to be of better service to the patients. Empathy can also be cultivated by fostering caring relationships between colleagues and medical practitioners. Nurses undergo challenging situations in the bid to take care of the patients to the extent that they forget to take care of themselves. To ease the practice, nurses need to be caring and empathetic towards one another. This will create an element of trust and teamwork that will result in better healthcare provision. The organization's practice will consequently change because the nurses will be concerned about the welfare of their colleagues and nurses making them feel more connected to their careers. For patients, this type of nursing action is important in their wellbeing and health. Patients want to feel a sense of connection and trust with their healthcare providers therefore it is important for the nurses to understand how they feel. This will create a relationship that facilitates transparency meaning the patient won’t be reluctant to divulge information regarding their health. Advocacy
Advocacy is another important pillar in nursing practice. The nurses are therefore supposed to advocate for the needs of their patients and communities they operate in. By championing for their patients, the nurses can help in the improvement of the and advancement in the quality and affordable healthcare. This involves ensuring that they are safe when being treated and also advocate for social assistance by social workers once they are discharged. The nurses develop a sense of responsibility to ensure the safety of the patients and the community around them. Consequently, they can protect the patients’ rights which will boost the patient’s trust in the organization and overall improvement in healthcare provision. The patients benefit the most form of nurses advocating for their rights. This means that the patients’ health is the top priority in the organization and the nurses do everything in their power to facilitate it.
