EBP is a method that integrates the best available research evidence with clinical capability and patient ideals. In nursing, EBP is enacted through implementation of best practices in the areas of cognition, nutrition, or medication. EBP implementation involves selecting an area that could be improved, identifying best practices that can improve that area, selecting an appropriate and outcome measures that will influence the practice, and collaborating with experts. 4 in 10 patients receive care that is not based on evidence leading to ineffective and potentially injurious treatments (Grimshaw, 2012).
