Part 1
Christians believe that God exists in the order of Father, son and the holy spirit and that God is a supernatural being who exists in various forms that are beyond the comprehension of His subjects (human beings). Despite the Christian understanding of science as a means of obtaining information and understanding the dynamics of nature, it is a relative thought which requires in-depth research to establish the truth. The bible states that God is the supreme giver of all things, including happiness and health. In healthcare, nurses and other practitioners are expected to treat people with utmost respect since human beings are created in the image of God.
In terms of postmodern modernism, the truth is nonexistent and only personal purposes exist. For instance, there are numerous debates regarding what should be considered morally wrong or right including the idea that murder is an inhuman act (Shin, 2018). Postmodernism suggests that the idea of murder’s immorality is a subjective notion which needs to be judged as wrong or right and that human beings should not exist as superiors being above other living and non-living things. In the healthcare perspective, it seems difficult for nurses and other healthcare professional to conduct their duties since the truth is limited and acts such as murder might not be considered immoral.
The conflict between post modernism and nursing has been a critical issue in light of ethics. Ethics are important in healthcare since it cushions patient’s information and confidentiality and ensure that each healthcare practitioner respects their clients. Similarly, conflict exists between the Christian perspective and the healthcare regulations, including the issue of euthanizing patients and the requirements for making such as decision (Shin, 2018). Christianity upholds live as a God given gift that should not be taken away through human intervention. Christians believe that God is the sole giver of life and that he should be the only one to take it away. On the other hand, there are terminally ill patients who do not stand a chance to survive, and healthcare professionals offer the option of euthanizing such patients to take away the suffering. Therefore, in light of postmodern relativism in healthcare, nurses and other healthcare professionals should respect all forms of life in equal measure.
Part 2
Scientism is the radical belief in the supremacy of scientific techniques and knowledge to solve problems. People who believe in scientism consider science to be the most effective means of explaining all phenomenon (Andrews, Watson, Chen & Morris, 2017). Believers of scientism also worship science and participate in various scientific rituals. Unlike Christians who perform their beliefs by referring to records of traditions and knowledge that has been transferred from one generation to another, followers of scientism believe that to prove something or find the truth, it must be done using science and observations tested to prove the reliability of the results.
Scientism regards death as the end of existence and that there is no possibility of another life after death. They also believe that near-death experience is a hoax like life after death since scientific experiments have not been conduct to prove the notion. Scientism explains that all human knowledge and reasoning are a result of experimental practices that enable us to understand the dynamics of life and other ideas. People who believe in scientism assert that scientific boundaries should expand to enable things that have not previously been treated as scientific subjects to be understood as science. In the most extreme form, scientism is considered as the conviction that there are no boundaries in the scientific society. Enthusiasts of scientism also assert that it is only a matter of time before science will be able to assists in understanding all phenomena and develop ways of solving almost all problems.
