Ethics is an integral element in providing healthcare services to the public. This forces healthcare providers to meet their responsibility of working within the ethical standards of their profession. To what extent do they meet these obligations? How might their obligations to others conflict with their obligations to themselves? This paper discusses the extent to which healthcare providers meet their obligations and examines how meeting these obligations conflicts with their interests to themselves.
It is notable that healthcare providers are doing their best in ascertaining that they meet their obligations. This owes to the reality that they work within their ethical standards in a bid to provide quality healthcare services. For instance, the Buchanan (2009) reveals that healthcare providers have to practice with compassion, natural dignity, uniqueness, and worthiness. Furthermore, healthcare providers have to disregard economic, personal attributes, or social status when providing healthcare services. Buchanan (2009) also reveals that healthcare providers are accountable for individual practice that identifies appropriate delegation of duties, which are consistent with providing optimum patient care.
