Effects of fluoride treatment on teeth.
The research article discussed is focused on dental hygiene. It sought to examine the continuous therapeutic use of two fluoride varnishes on lesions appearing as white spots on the teeth. The trial was randomized and clinical carried out in different public schools in John Pessoa, Brazil (Ferreira, J.M. et al., 2009). The study variables included school-going children between the ages of 7 and 12 who had used a specific common hygiene routine registered in the observed public schools. The criteria used to include participants were children who had active sore lesions on the buccal surface of their permanent teeth. Their parents must have also signed an informed consent form for the study. In contrast, the exclusion criteria were based on excluding children who had caries and small cavities, those who had restored the targeted teeth, developmental enamel changes of dental disease, and using orthodontics contraptions such as braces. The research followed a pattern that ensured no negative effect from external factors since fluoride from other sources was not available to the subjects other than the described products for the study.
