Question

Example: Was the study a pilot study? If so, what information lets you know it was a pilot study?

Yes, it is a pilot study. The study is on a small scale with 40 participants representative of a population of 4,000. Pilot studies are small scale preliminary studies (Leon, Davis, & Kraemer, 2012).

Selected Study Title: Experiences and perceptions of the United States Ebola Active Monitoring Program: results from a survey of former persons under monitoring in Washington, DC. _________________________
Answer Section
Background Section,
Paragraph 2
What is the problem this research intends to address?
The research examines Former Persons Under Monitoring (FPUM) s' perceptions and experiences of the Ebola Active Monitoring Program by the United States. The study intends to fill a knowledge gap regarding the impacts of PUM even though the government has invested heavily in the monitoring program for several years in different jurisdictions (Hennenfent et al., 2017, p. 71). During the screening at airports, the travelers underwent a risk assessment to determine if they are exposed, and they were given educational materials, a thermometer, symptom/temperature log, prepaid cell phones, and contact information to contact the health department.
What is the problem statement?
The problem statement is, "despite massive effort DOH and other US jurisdictions invested in developing the individual programs that comprised the US EVD Active Monitoring Program (AMP), few scientific reports describe its impact on PUMs" (Hennenfent et al. 2017, p. 71).
What makes this problem important or worth considering?
The problem is important since few studies have described the effects of PUM. The problem should be considered since it will help gain new insights about thermometer and CARE phone use, impacts of monitoring on future journeys to counties impacted by Ebola, and the negative effects that arose due to travel to an Ebola-affected country (Hennenfent et al. 2017, p. 71). The travelers had to be actively monitored for 21 days since the last exposure date.
Define and identify the null and alternative hypotheses being tested?
The null hypothesis means no relationship between the two variables under analysis (Chiappelli et al., 2015, p. 2). In this case, the null hypothesis is that the monitoring program does not impact the FPUMs' perceptions and experiences. On the other hand, the alternative hypothesis means that there is a relationship between the two variables. In other words, the FPUMs perceptions and experiences are affected ...
