Evolution of Health Informatics: Analysis of American Medical Informatics Association
In this case study, you, as the reader, will need to fill in a number of the details. The case study begins at the point when you return to school for a graduate degree. Details related to your previous education, professional experience in healthcare, and goals in returning to school should be filled in from your own life story. The program of study for your graduate degree includes an Introduction to Informatics course. This is a required course for all students in the program. How I Analyzed the Informatics Organization Options
Whether one is an existing learner in a health informatics program or already has years of experience in the informatics sector, joining a professional association in different fields, such as health informatics, is essential for career development or advancement (Dooling, Osborne & Wiedemann, 2014). The informatics sector’s professional organizations provide numerous opportunities for specialized enrichment, networking, education, etc. These organizations are many such that a person can have different options to choose from before deciding on one organization to join. Depending on one’s objectives, area of specialization, interests, and expertise, an individual always has a given option to select. From my perspective, I analyzed five (ANIA, AMIA, HIMSS, IMIA, and AHIMA) possible alternatives and settled on AMIA as undoubtedly the best that met my interests. Specifically, I was looking for an organization with many members from different specialties for easier exchanging of ideas and information. Also, I wanted one to gain high-quality information in health and biomedical informatics.
Why I selected to Join American Medical Informatics Association
In 1988, three major American-based medical informatics and information systems associations merged to form the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), among the most reputable and proactive health informatics in the world. After narrowing down the list of health informatics organizations, I settled on AMIA for several reasons. The organization’s membership allows healthcare experts in an extensive range of occupations and roles.
