Description of the Scenario
The case scenario deals with a patient, middle-aged man who has a history of drug use. The patient is also suffering from Opioid use disorder and has been admitted to a hospital. Other health complications that the middle-aged man faces include bacterial infections that affect his heart valve and spine (Solomon et al., 2019). Therefore, to address these issues, the healthcare facility has necessitated using intravenous antibiotics as a treatment mechanism. The patient suffered an addiction, which led to an addiction treatment initiation, and ever since, there have been significant improvements (Solomon et al., 2019). However, concerns are still arising, especially regarding the need to discharge the patient from the hospital and connect him to a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) line so that he can complete medication while at home. Healthcare professionals fear that the patient can use the line for drug injection, overdosing and further risking his well-being.
