In this week's readings, the issue of how people appropriate different foods and the ways that food, in turn, reappropriates people and cultures is examined. Lucy M. Long's “Culinary Tourism: A Folkloristic Perspective on Eating and Otherness,” explores the consumption of other people’s foods and indicates that it is much more than a simple feed; it opens pathways more than feed, the consumption of foods that belong to other cultures is much more than what it is, a cultural experience. According to Long, culinary tourism lets people taste the 'other' and, while doing so, exoticize the other and simultaneously desire it.
