As a registered nurse, the most frustrating nursing experience I encountered was explaining to the patient that information from the internet is not the solution to their ailments. With the advancements in technology, the majority of the patients tend to diagnose themselves before coming to the examination room. As a nurse, I had to help the patient understand that ailments could present similar symptoms but affect the body differently, creating the need for professional advice.
Besides, I made them aware that the information online could be outdated, which can affect them negatively; thus, they should always seek professional assistance instead of diagnosing themselves. I made it clear that self-diagnosis can result in misuse of medication, which can cause more severe damage to the patients, eventually leading to loss of life. I also made them aware of the importance of obtaining medical information from a credible source.
