Atkins diet is a low‐carbohydrate, high‐fat (LCHF) diet. As such, the diet restricts the consumption of high carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, cereals and pasta, and even fruits. The diet does not restrict the consumption of fats, and there is adequate protein. In standard diets, carbohydrates tend to be a larger share than proteins and fats.

The Atkins diet has a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet and adequate protein content. This type of diet is recommended by supporters who highlight it reduces the risk of conditions like diabetes and improves health. There are also increased levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL) or good cholesterol and reduced low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol.

The Atkins diet is healthy and is associated with weight loss but without significant hyperlipidemia. This type of diet is linked with weight loss where there is lower LDL and increased HDL. The ketogenic diet that is similar to the Atkins diet is one of the diets that have been used for drug-resistant epilepsy management (Sondhi et al., 2020). Atkins diet is not a balanced diet since it is low in carbohydrates and is very rich in protein and lipids, including foods that are not usually recommended in diets to lose weight of healthy way.
