Understanding what employees need enables leaders to build trust and create strong relationships in the workplace (Hougaard and Carter, 2018). Moreover, empathy allows employees to feel secure about their failures and enables leaders to understand the root cause of these failures and thus devise appropriate ways to address these weaknesses. Empathetic leaders are therefore able to help struggling employees improve their skills and efforts positively.
