1 A genetic disorder is a disease that results when there is an abnormality in a person’s genome due to a change in the DNA sequence. For a genetic disorder not to occur, the number and sequence of the chromosomes should not change due to any factor. Genetic disease result if a mutation occurs either in one gene or multiple genes. The genes’ location is along the chromosomes at specific sites called the gene loci; hence any alteration in the alignment of the chromosomes affects the position of the genes resulting in a mutation. The gene mutations can result from various factors ranging from environmental exposure to chemicals and gene inheritance from parents to offsprings.
