Scientific inquiry creates knowledge or information that explains observed phenomena, and such information is useful to develop theory or laws. In science, the empirical approach to scientific inquiry controls phenomena, when there is accurate prediction of the outcomes (Butts & Rich, 2017). This contrasts with applying knowledge for specific aims to yield utility in applied science, while human science seeks to improve the quality of life (Butts & Rich, 2017 Even as theories and models are used in scientific inquiry, they are tested to ensure their applicability, while the social sciences have some laws that are difficult to test when there are controlled investigations.
