Anaphylactic Shock
Anaphylactic shock is an acute, dangerous, and usually a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction to an antigen to which makes the body to be hypersensitive. It is usually rare, but when it occurs, can be quite deadly if not dealt with quickly. Anaphylactic shock causes the immune system to produce a lot of chemicals that result in shock. Anaphylactic shock occurs within a very short duration of around 20 minutes after one is exposed to the allergen. Allergies occur when a person’s immune system reacts to an innocuous substance known as allergen (Mayo Clinic, 2019). Anaphylactic shock is a dangerous condition that should be treated with immediate effect as its results sometimes may be fatal.
Symptoms
People suffering from anaphylactic shock may reveal several signs and symptoms. These signs and symptoms include: the person normally experiences irritation in the nose, skin, stomach, or in the mouth. The person may also have breathing difficulties as a result of narrowed openings of the breathing system (Gotter, 2019). There is also the constriction of some of the body’s airways, which in turn result in wheezing. The person may also all over sudden start feeling too warm and also have difficulties in swallowing, and one tends to feel as if there is a lump on the throat. The person may also experience abdominal pains, diarrhoea, vomiting, and nausea.
The individual may also have a weak and rapid pulse simultaneously. Finally, the individual can also have low blood pressure that can result in dizziness, fainting, and mental confusion (Villines, 2018). Low blood pressure is also known as hypotension.
