Discovering Relationships and Building Models: There is often the requirement to evaluate descriptive statistics for data within the organization or for health care information. Every year the National Cancer Institute collects and publishes data based on patient demographics. Understanding differences between the groups based upon the collected data often informs health care professionals towards research, treatment options, or patient education.
Using the data on the "National Cancer Institute Data" Excel spreadsheet, calculate the descriptive statistics indicated below for each of the Race/Ethnicity groups. Refer to your textbook and the topic Resources, as needed, for assistance in with creating Excel formulas.
Provide the following descriptive statistics:
Measures of Central Tendency: Mean, Median, and Mode
Measures of Variation: Variance, Standard Deviation, and Range (a formula is not needed for Range).
Once the data is calculated, provide a 150-250 word analysis of the descriptive statistics on the spreadsheet. This should include differences and health outcomes between groups.
APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Analysis
The statistics indicate that among the groups, the average cancer rate is highest among blacks and lowest among Hispanics. According to Kiess and Green (2020), the mean is used to determine the center of the data distribution. The mean cancer rate among blacks is 70.07, which is more than twice that of Hispanics. Further, the data shows that for native Americans/Indians/Alaskans, and blacks, the modes are not applicable because no single score occurs twice in the data set. This means that the cancer rate for these two groups has not been the same in any given year
Also, among the groups, blacks have the greatest variance and standard deviation while Asian/Pacific Islanders have the least standard deviation and variance. According to Verma (2019), the standard deviation and variance measure the variability of data about the mean. The greater the variance, the more the data is spread out about the mean, and the less the variance, the less spread out the data is. The cancer rate among the blacks varies with a standard deviation of 6.74 while that of Asian/Pacific Islanders varies with a standard deviation of 2.38. For these groups, it means that the cancer rate among blacks is spread further from the average while the cancer rate among Asian/Pacific Islanders is closer to the average cancer rate. This can be supported by the range which shows Blacks having a range of 21.6 while Asian/Pacific Islanders having a range of 7.8. As Verma (2019), indicates, the range is used to identify the maximum variation in the data set and for these groups, blacks have the maximum variation of 21.6, which is higher than that of other groups.
