In standard cases, physical examination tends to be the first stage of providing treatment. This involves assessing patients’ bodies to affirm that the bodily organs of the patient are healthy. Besides, it also consists of obtaining some information from the patient through understanding the patient’s family health history. There are a lot of commonalities in both adult and child physical assessment procedures. However, the process does also not fall short of differences in how adults and pediatric cases are handled. Some of the standard practices involved in both adult and children's physical assessments include creating a rapport between the patient and the physician. Second, the use of appropriate language concerning the patient's age is highly encouraged in both assessments. The provision of adequate information about the intention of the Assessment is also a common practice in both assessments (Crabtree et al, 2013).
On the contrary, the assessments may differ, especially on how the practices, as mentioned above, are carried out on patients depending on whether they are adults or patients. For instance, in children, physical Assessment, parents or caregivers are always the people who provide the information required by physicians. This is not still the case during adults’ physical examination. Secondly, for infants, it is always recommended to allow them to touch some of the clean pieces of equipment used during their examination as a way of reducing fears in them. Models of communication applied during the two assessments may also differ during the individual evaluations. For adults, verbal communication is useful in providing the exact information.
