Applying developmental theory based on Erickson, Piaget, or Kohlberg, explain how you would developmentally assess the child. Include how you would offer explanations during the assessment, strategies you would use to gain cooperation, and potential findings from the assessment.

Stages of development as well as expected assessment vary across ages. Children progress differently as they have varying personalities, abilities, and interests. However, while children develop differently, at ages 5 to 12, common milestones are attained. At ages 6 to 7 for example, children like to draw, jump ropes, practice some skills, among others. At 8-9 they get more aggressive in movements, dressing, tool usage, and playing. At age 10-12, they develop better drawing, painting, dancing, and writing. Generally, children’s skills and knowledge advance as they age. The more they are exposed to new things, people, and assessment they learn to master new concepts, copy complex shapes, read time, repeat numbers backwards, draw and paint, among others. The needs of a school-aged child aged 10 is based on many factors.
Development stage of 10-year-old Child and Assessment Techniques
At 10 years old, most children are already thinking and sounding abstractly. Children aged 10 years are almost transitioning to adolescents and already have developed language skills as well as the cognitive ability to gather knowledge which allows them to formulate organized thoughts and opinions. As such, they are more likely to count backwards, understand concepts, read more, draw and paint, as well as collect and name objects (Oogarah-Pratap, Bholoa, & Ramma, 2020). At age 10, children are already in a position to develop logical thoughts about key objects and events. However, children classify objects differently. Unlike 5-year-old, a 10-year-old thinks abstractly and hypothetically. As such, Piagets theory recommends that teachers adopt an active and mentoring role in teaching 10-year-old children (Marwaha, Goswami, & Vashist, 2017). As such, instead of forcing information at young children while they sit and listen, it is more beneficial to create a learning experience that actively engages children.
