Demographic data are collected for every study. What is the purpose of describing the demographic data?
Collecting demographic data is necessary to identify and describe the populations, while this makes it easier to identify changes and factors that affect the demographic groups. Demographic data describes a sample of people and where possible the data should be compared with what is known in the public (Connelly, 2013). At other times demographic data is utilized to identify patterns in a specific population as the distribution, size and structure of the demographic data. Direct demographic data is collected from records and data registries and includes census data. The indirect approach to collecting data focuses on relying on other people/ informants collecting data and there are estimates based on data collected.
