The Dental Hygiene Board of California (DHBC) has a mandate to protect public safety. In particular, sections 1950.5 – 1967.4 of the Business and Professional Codes contained in the DHBC Handbook define unprofessional conduct, which is the leading cause of recommending disciplinary actions against unscrupulous dental hygienists. For instance, assisting any unlicensed person to practice dental hygiene or dentistry and the use of controlled substances, drugs, alcohol, or other intoxicating substances are not only an infraction of the Business and Professional Codes but also poses potential harm to patients.
