Gaining support for or against curriculum development is a force, or a barrier that is often felt by curriculum developers. Sometimes the challenges can be overwhelming when you know that a curriculum is needed especially for nurses that need to stay in front of a rapidly changing healthcare delivery system, evidence-based practices, and evolving standards of practice. There are many interrelated factors, both internal and external, that can positively or negatively influence curriculum development. On a very large scale, think about the problem from a global perspective. Nurses throughout the world learn and work in many settings. We are moving toward a more community and globally based healthcare delivery system. As such, nurses will need to develop new competencies and transferable skills to be able to provide state of the art healthcare in multiple care setting.
The environment of higher education is equally influenced by many stakeholders, including but not limited to the tremendous needs of hospital systems, government agencies, and the needs of society at large. These external forces place ever increasing demands on educational systems that prepare nurses to work throughout the healthcare industry. Strong leadership is needed to influence change in how people view the value of, and the need for resources to develop context-relevant curriculum. The decision-making and approval process may be equally daunting.

Self-care deficit can arise in cases where the individuals cannot conduct self-care, and the nurse has to come to meet their needs.
The advantage of a multidisciplinary nursing curriculum that integrates concepts and skills from other programs is that it makes it easier to deal with a wide array of challenges that can arise. Since it is multidisciplinary, the nurse will be exposed to diverse views and insights that can strengthen their knowledge and skills. This can come in handy ...
